Casa Miron - in the heart of the Spanish countryside

Casa Miron is a traditional Spanish house originally built about 250 years ago and now beautifully renovated and modernised for the 21st century. It provides short term holiday accommodation for up to 5 people.

It has many traditional features, such as the open log fire, combined with modern and fully equipped kitchen.

Casa Miron is in Saliente Alto in the north of the province of Almería, within the region of Andalucía. It is in the mountains roughly half way between the market towns of Chirivel to the north and Albox to the south at an altitude of just under 1,000 metres.

It is ideal for anyone looking for the 'real' Spain as it forms part of a working farm growing olives, almonds and figs as well as grapes used for wine-making. The nearest road is about 2km away and to get to it means a drive along the rambla - a dry river bed flattened to form a dirt-road - though easily accessible in a normal car.

The view from the garden

Casa Miron was rebuilt and renovated during 2010 and opened for holiday bookings from Christmas that year.

The theme of the renovation was quality and you will find that it has been furnished with care as if it were to be someone's main house and not simply as a 'holiday let'.

A great deal of thought and care has gone into the restoration so that the previously derelict house can once again be the pride and joy of the owner.

Gill and William live close by and will get everything ready for your arrival and, during your stay, will do all they can to ensure your comfort and enjoyment. They will also come and meet you as Casa Miron can be difficult to find the first time you come here (see the Find Us page for details)

Saliente Alto does not have a local shop but there is one in the next village. Shopping there is an experience as Maria sells one of the widest variety of goods you'll find in the area. Everything from fresh food, frozen goods, tins and bottles, electrical goods, animal feed, DIY goods, paint ......... and even just looking around takes you into another world.

But in Albox you will find all you need in the supermarkets of Mercadona and Lidl or, if you crave for a few imported British goodies, in GB Stores. And hunting around you will find the sort of shops that dispppeared from the British high street many years ago - traditional ironmongers (fereteria), bakeries (panaderia) and Spanish or Chinese 'Todos' shops which are like mini bazaars selling a wide variety of items.
